Your Chance to Change a LIFE!

We have launched a new project, ‘Taiba Nyassen’ A Boarding School where the majority of children are orphans and/or from very impoverished homes where the parents are unable to look after/feed them. The school will also serve as a Quranic Memorisation School.

This is your chance to change the lives of 142 children by providing:

  • Accommodation and Supervision

  • Education

  • Clean Drinking Water

  • Sanitation

  • Clothing

All the children are eligible for zakaat.

‘The Prophet (saw) said, “The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this,“and he (saw) held his two fingers together to illustrate’. [Bukhari]

Access to food, education, shelter and emotional support are the fundamentals every young child should have, but there are millions of children in communities around the world who are deprived of these very basic essentials. Millions of children live without the love and protection of families, with nothing more than a piece of cardboard for a blanket and neglect almost guaranteed. No child should have to live such a bleak and painful life, but your donations can help elevate these children into a promising and hopeful future. You have the opportunity today to make such a change to a Child’s life by providing them with shelter, clothing and an education with a one-off Donation of £450*.

TAIBA NYASSEN

WEST COAST REGION

THE GAMBIA

TAIBA NYASSEN is a small village of about 1015 inhabitants located about 6 km off-road from the highway (Bondali). The village is a settlement in the lands of Bondali and was allocated to the late scholar by the Chief of Bondali in 1999 for the purpose of Islamic education for the young generations. Since then the village has been struggling to meet basic educational needs such as shaded learning areas, safe accommodation for children boarding/orphans, clean drinking water, Quranic education, food and clothing.

An insight into life today you can help change…

Accommodation

The children sleep in very poor conditions. There are no beds or mattresses to sleep on. They sleep on bare floors spreading light cloths or old mats. The floors are usually cracked or badly broken.

During the winter months the floor is cold and comes with it the risk of catching pneumonia. The living areas do not have doors or windows, no ceilings and cracks in the the walls. During winter when the wind is dry and dusty the children suffer in their houses and outside which makes learning extremely difficult. Providing clean, basic, structurally sound accommodation and beds will be life changing for these children.

Education

There are 142 children enrolled in the village Islamic school. All the children full-board at the school without any cost to their families. The objective is to for every single child as young as four years old to be provided Islamic education and to learn skills which will provide a better quality of life for future generations. The children are of The Gambia, Senegal and Guinea Conakry national and from very poor families.

Shelter

The children require shaded learning areas. As the village is expecting more students to enrol the shaded areas will serve to protect the children from the harsh environment, scorching sun and heavy rainfall. During the rain season the students find it very difficult to attend lessons due to wet ground together with wind and dust. Shaded learning areas will provide a conducive and protective environment for learning during the day and night in all weathers.

Food

Food is a daily challenge for the people of TAIBA NYASSEN since the establishment of the village. The village scholar is responsible for feeding villagers with the help of donors who provide rice and cash to support the feeding programme. The village has fertile farmland used to cultivate staple Millett (Coos) crop during the rainy season. This harvest is used to provide staple food everyday. This is eaten for breakfast and dinner. Rice is eaten once a day for lunch due to the high cost and reliance on donations.

Water

Access to safe drinking water is a massive challenge today for the villagers. The only hand pump in the village has been out of action for over two years. Several repairs have been attempted without success. The women and girls from the village walk long distances to fetch water every single day. According to one of the teachers, children seldom take baths or attend to other basic hygiene needs. A clean and reliable water source is urgently required to provide the villagers with this basic human need.

Clothing

The children wear torn clothes, their families cannot afford new or second hand clothes.

Our aim is to provide the children with simple clothes to provide dignity and protection, a basic universal human need.

Our Proposal:

To provide facilities for the safe and secure full time accommodation for 142 Children.

The Proposed Project will include:

  • Secure accommodation with bunk beds, mattresses and private lockers

  • Adequate toilets and showering facilities

  • Shaded, weatherproof areas for teaching, recreation and religious events

  • Clothing/Uniforms

These basic facilities will help children grow mentally, physically and spiritually. We will provide adequate monitoring facilities.

The Total cost of this project is estimated at £64,000. This averages out at £450 per child.

We propose to commence the Project during Ramadhan (April 2021) Innsh’Allah and the estimated date of completion is by the end of September 2021, Innsh’Allah.

Long-Term Impact

This building project will provide a healthy and conducive learning environment for impoverished children. With the new facilities we will also be able to enrol and accommodate more children in the future.

We have already concluded the planning stage . An example elevation and floor plans for the accommodation block is shown below.
